Hi there. I’m Michael Pollock, the new owner of Blog Strategies. David Henderson, the site’s original founder, had a few too many projects on his plate and was kind enough to transfer Blog Strategies to me. He will surely be missed around here, but I hope to more than adequately fill his shoes.
A Little About Me
I’ve been doing business online since 2004, when I launched Small Business Branding (SBB), a blog about how small businesses build a strong and enduring brand on and off the web. It was a fun project, and I learned a great deal about small business web marketing. During the two years that I owned Small Business Branding, my proudest moment came when Entrepreneur Magazine referred to it as one of the “cream of the crop” marketing blogs on the web. After two years, however, it was time for me to move on to something else, and I sold Small Business Branding to an Australian friend of mine named Yaro Starak.
In 2006, I launched Solostream, a blog design company. It was good timing as blogs were just beginning to gain popularity and credibility as a tool for marketing a small business. Solostream took off almost immediately, and I soon had more than enough custom blog design work to keep me busy.
In October 2007, Solostream began to develop and sell premium WordPress themes that folks could simply purchase and download right from the Solostream website. Within a few months, I stopped doing custom design work and made a comfortable living off the sale of WordPress Themes.
Inspired to create something new, I sold Solostream in September 2008. Although Solostream was doing well and provided me a comfortable living, I couldn’t escape the feeling that something was missing from my work life. And rather than close down a successful business or try to change it, I decided it was best to let someone else move it forward while I focus my energy on work that’s more in alignment with my passion.
About Blog Strategies in 2010
Over the coming year, Blog Strategies will provide tips, tools and strategies that empower you to use a WordPress blog (or blogs) as the key component of a profitable online business.
Among the many things I’ve learned about doing business online over the past 5 years, I’ve learned that building a successful online business starts with trust. People have to trust you enough to give you their attention. Further, they have to trust you enough to buy your products and services or the products and services you might recommend to them. And if it’s done right, a blog is one of the easiest and least expensive tools available to help you develop trust and authority on a particular topic.
I look forward to meeting all the Blog Strategies readers, so don’t be a stranger. Feel free to say hello or leave a comment.
