More Ways to Measure Traffic

Posted by David with No Comments

Just as I posted some thoughts about determining site rankings, my friend George reminded me of another helpful tool – Site Meter.  While I agree that Site Meter is an essential element in taking a snapshot of blog traffic, I would rank it complementary or secondary level to Google Analytics, Alexa.com and Technorati.

Site Meter tells you who your visitors are and where they are located in the world on a real-time basis, and that’s really cool.  But, it does not drill down to analyze site traffic as deeply or accurately as Google Analytics, Alexa.com and Technorati.  But, then, trying to determine site ranking and traffic ultimately is an unscientific best guess based on several resources.

Incidentally, Site Meter comes in two flavors – basic and premium.  Basic is free but premium comes at a cost.  While I have used both versions, I personally prefer the free version and recommend it for every blog.
